D'un point de vue personnel, c'était depuis la fin de ma saison intérieure en janvier que j'attendais ce moment-là : la première compétition extérieure !
C'est enfin arrivé! Le weekend dernier, avec mon entraîneur ainsi que deux de mes coéquipiers, nous sommes allés à Princeton, au New Jersey afin de participer au Sam Howell Invitational.
Alors que Jean-Daniel Labranche était inscrit au 5 000m et Manon Létourneau au 10 000m (une première compétition extérieure sur piste pour elle), j'étais inscrit au 1 500m.
Mais puisque depuis un certain temps il y a beaucoup d'acide dans le club, il ne fallait pas que ce début de saison en fasse exception.
Donc, le jour de la compétition, nous partions 3 heures avant le départ de mon 1 500m, ce qui était largement suffisant pour arriver 1h30 avant la course. Malheureusement, nous avons été pris dans le trafic et le trajet a finalement duré 4h... Et oui, j'ai manqué ma course.
Par contre, il restait encore le 5 000m et le 10 000m à l'horaire. Avec la gentillesse de l'organisateur, j'ai donc pu changer mon inscription pour le 5000m.
Physiquement, je n'étais pas prêt à courir une distance aussi longue puisque je me préparais depuis un mois à courir un 1500m en début de saison. Mentalement, j'ai très bien réagi et je me suis fait confiance en sachant que je pouvais tout de même faire une bonne course.
Malgré les conditions météos très difficiles, j'ai établit un nouveau record personnel en 15:12.44, un bon premier 5 000m sur la piste !
La météo étant la même pour tout le monde, ce fut assez difficile pour mes coéquipiers. Jean-Daniel Labranche a terminé son 5 000m en 14:57.26 et Manon Létourneau, son 10 000m en 36:29.62.
Malgré tout, nous avons brisé la glace et sommes prêts à affronter les compétitions à venir!
La prochaine compétition pour moi : le Bison Outdoor Classic à Bucknell en Pennsylvanie. BuddyVeillette risque également d'y faire une apparition... À suivre !

On my side, I was waiting for this moment since the end of my indoor season in January: the first outdoor competition! It finally happened!
Last weekend, my coach and two of my teammates and I went to Princeton, New Jersey to take part in the Sam Howell Invitational. While Jean -Daniel Labranche was registered in the 5 000m and Manon Létourneau in the 10 000m (first outdoor competition on the track for her), I was supposed to run the 1 500m. But since there is a lot of acide going on in the club lately, this new season just could'nt start as an exception
So, on race day, we left 3 hours before the start of the 1 500m , which was more than enough to get to the stadium an hour and a half before the race. Unfortunately, we were stuck in traffic and the journey finally took 4 hours... And yes, I missed my race.
On the other hand, there were still the 5 000m and 10 000m on the schedule. With the kindness of the organizers, I was able to change my registration for the 5000m.
Physically, I was not ready to run a long distance since I had been training for a month to run a 1 500m. Mentally, I responded very well because I believed that I still could pull out a good race. Despite the very difficult weather conditions, I set a new personal best of 15:12.44, a great first 5 000m on the track! The weather being the same for everyone, it has been quite difficult for my teammates. Jean -Daniel Labranche completed his 5 000m in 14:57.26 and Manon Létourneau, her 10 000m in 36:29.62. Nonetheless, we broke the ice and are ready for upcoming races!
The next competition for me: the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell in Pennsylvania. BuddyVeillette will probably also make an appearance ... Stay tuned!
